Well, That Sucks

I was on my way home from work yesterday and decided that I simply must stop at Wendy's for a Chicken BLT salad. So instead of stopping at home, I drove right past. And when I got to the first intersection after passing my house, I sat and waited at a red light. I don't really remember what I was thinking about (probably just that I wanted to get my damn salad and get home), but shortly after I arrived at the light, I heard the unmistakable sound of a car crash. By the time I looked up and had the opportunity to think, damn, I'm going to have to sit here and wait for the police to show up ('cause I'm such a good citizen), the car had spun into my front end.

My air bag didn't deploy (I'm not totally sure if this is good news or bad), but it was a pretty major accident. There were at least four cars hit (although the police later told me there were seven drivers involved) and the driver who hit me had to be extracted with the Jaws of Life. I had the most minor injuries of anyone there, but since I was pregnant, the EMTs were pretty insistent that I head to the hospital to be checked out. So they strapped me to a backboard and we were on our way.

The baby is fine and I am only slightly the worse for wear. They thought I had broken my clavicle, but it appears that it is just bruised from the seatbelt. I'm really sore, but I think it will be short-lived. They want me to wear a sling as much as possible over the next week or so to limit the shoulder pain but, hello!, I have a 17 month old I'm chasing around, so no.

Because of the complexity of the accident, the police won't have a report released for a couple of days. And since my C&C insurance doesn't cover rental cars, I'm going to have to pay out of pocket until liability is established. And they're already dragging their feet about replacing Alliclaus' carseat. I'm so glad I give them all my money every month.

My OB will be back in the office this afternoon, but I'm hoping that she will think all the hospital tests are enough information and won't make me go into the office for further checkups.

Anyway, so much for a leisurely day off with Andiclaus. Instead, I will have to be heading out to the City Impound to pick up the car.

Also, I'm being subpoenaed to appear in court about the accident. Which I guess is good since it would be nice to know what the hell happened.

Update: I hate you, Kansas City! They lost my car! When we called the PD this morning, they told us that they didn't have any information about the accident, but that our car was at a particular city impound lot. Andrés got there and our car was not there! We've finally tracked it down, but this is exactly the kind of incompetence that makes me hate this town.

i'm glad to hear you are all right! that's awful, but fortunately it's hassle and not anything threatening to your health or your family.

Bethi, oh my God! I'm so happy you're okay. Good grief. When will you have to testify?

What a pisser! When I got into the accident with Chloe in the back, I was so ticked because I was only out because I wanted Quiznos!! Luckily they did replace her car seat no questions asked, so hopefully the liability issue can get resolved quickly and will take care of everything. I am glad to hear you are OK and the little one on the way is OK too.

That really does suck. I am so, so sorry and so glad you and the baby are okay.

Many curses to Kansas City!

Dude! That really sucks! I'm glad to hear you're doing okay though; that's what's most important. Good luck with the aftermath - I can't wait to hear what caused the accident. I'm guessing stupidity.

Girl, that suck big donkey you know what! Thank goodness you and the babe are ok! Insurance companies are the biggest fuck stick of all...and they will drag whatever then can to not pay out! Good luck! I know a few good attorneys if you need help!

Ugh. Thank goodness you are ok. I know this'll sound Pollyanna-esque, but something good is waiting aroudn the corner, this whole thing is too messed up not to be a very low dip before a well earned high.
