Kansas City, I Hate You with the Fire of a Thousand Suns

...which is approximately the temperature of my apartment just now.

On Saturday, we thought we blew a fuse, because our dryer lost heat. It would still rotate, but it was just air-tumbling. Sunday morning, I awoke to discover that our stove had no power, either. When I got home from church, I noticed that the apartment was beginning to be stiflingly hot. We also realized that if our dryer wasn't constantly on, we lost power upstairs. Awesome. So we called our property management office and got the number for the off-hours emergency maintenance. They paged the on-call guy a bunch of times, but he never came.

We called again this morning and they sent someone out. We called at eight and a repairman finally came at twelve (approximately 21 hours after we first reported the problem.)

Well, at least it's taken care of. Oh, wait. No, it's not. Because apparently, there are two separate power lines running into our apartment and one of them "must be down." Our dryer is somehow (poorly, if you ask me) re-routing the electricity to the other line. No air-conditioning + 87 degree day + possible molar-teething baby = I'm in HELL!

I've had nothing but bad experiences with the utility companies of Kansas City. (See my archives.) KCP&L don't have ANY OTHER JOBS on the books right now, but won't be coming to our house for another three hours because...they're not in the area.

I think I might die. But hey! If I'm dead, I can't sweat. Things are looking up.

Let's get to some book reviews.

YIKES. :/ That's horrible! Sweating like crazy SUCKS. I'd probably go hang out at a mall or somewhere with AC for a little while.

Sucky! Hot teething babies with hot sweaty moms is never a good combination! Happy Mother's Day!
