2007: Resolutions

Well, it's kind of late to just be getting my New Year's resolutions nailed down, but I wrote them last week and then wanted some time to look over them and see how I felt about them.

I'll be turning 26 this year, so 26 resolutions seemed appropriate. Here they are, in no particular order.

  • Run a 5K. (I don't run at all, so this is huge for me. Much training will be required.)
  • Reach my goal weight of 140 pounds by July 4.
  • Finish my 2007 reading list on time.
  • Complete all school assignments without requesting extensions.
  • Take more photgraphs. ('Cause we got a rockin' new camera for Christmas.)
  • Commit to a bedtime routine for Alliclaus and stick to it.
  • Commit to a house-cleaning schedule and stick to it.
  • Post at least five times weekly.
  • Family dinner at least once weekly. (Since Andiclaus and I work opposite shifts, this is more difficult than it sounds.)
  • Visit a museum with Alliclaus at least once monthly.
  • Let Andiclaus pick our movies. (I always think the movies he picks are going to suck, then they end up being my favorites. I'm such a bitch.)
  • Visit a new restaurant at least once monthly.
  • Birthday and anniversary cards for family and friends.
  • 25 comments per week on other people's blogs. (What? That's a lot for me. Since my average is zero.)
  • Actively work to improve my Spanish. (Suggestions, anyone?)
  • Learn to knit.
  • Learn to play guitar.
  • Attend Sunday school.
  • One load of laundry daily. (If we can ever get our damn washer fixed.)
  • Try new recipe at least once monthly.
  • Makeup on work days. (So far, not so good.)
  • Get Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving.
  • Find a way to make enough money from home to quit my job.
  • Attend as many wedding-related things for Sarah as is humanly possible. (Should be easy to do this year, since the wedding isn't until Summer of 2008.)
  • Occassionally turn to my mother-in-law for parenting advice. (I figured I should put at least one on my list that was highly challenging for me.)
  • Some type of memory something-or-other for Alliclaus' first birthday. (In case she thinks my blog isn't enough.)

So that's it. I'll probably do quarterly or thereabouts updates to see how we're doing. I've been reading y'alls' resolutions. If you haven't already posted yours, what are they?

Re: Learning Spanish: If money/time budget allows, sign up for a class at the community college. I know I learn much better in a structured setting.

Also, I hear they have language-learning podcasts available, although I have not yet checked them out.

Lastly, I'm assuming Andiclaus and his family speaks Spanish? Make him drill you and practice with you. The key to learning and retaining a new language will be usage, and if he makes you use it, you'll learn much faster than if he's just an innocent bystander. (When I was taking Japanese last fall, The SAK and his family would quiz me, which was a HUGE help.)

I don't do resolutions but yours sound good....I need to get back on my track of not napping when the boys do and/or thinking I"m too tired to do things when in fact I think I'm just bored. This isn't a New Year's Resolution though b/c I have to work hard every day at this and so far...not good! Having 2 teeth pulled as been the blame thus far though.....I'm sad eh?

i agree with dawn about practice. find people who can speak it with you, and that will help you internalize it a lot faster. if you want to combine some of your resolutions, you can come visit and comment on my blog, and you can comment in spanish! i'm happy to respond to your comments in spanish too (i could use practice myself, 'cause i don't use either spanish or french nearly enough).

as for my resolutions, while still dealing with the depression, the biggest resolution i can make is to just get out of bed every day. i'm taking baby steps.

best of luck with your list! i'm sure you can do it. :)

Good luck with your list! AAA will love the museums! It is a great time!

I, personally, don't do resolutions, but just try to work on becoming a good mother, person, human!

Well kudos to you for coming up with 26 darn good resolutions! I just turned 33 and the thought of that many resolutions gives me a headache ;-) I can only say if your knitting turns out half as nice as your chrochetting (sp?) you'll have some really nice stuff to share.

That's an awesome list and even if you only achieve half...that's an 'A' in my book. I am doing the cards on birthday and anniversaries thing too! I love getting mail that is not bills!

For the spanish thing, check out podcasts. Hola Isabel posted about a great one for German she found last week, so there have to be some out there for learning Spanish too!

That's a great list of resolutions. Also, for some reason I didn't realize that I'm almost 2 years older than you. I always thougth we were about the same age. I'll just attribute it to me feeling younger than I actually am.

26 resolutions--that is quite impressive! However, I like them. They are nice and specific and rather attainable. Mine this year are simple--have a baby and try to live through the first year!

I still haven't finished making up my resolutions from last year. Damn.

As for the Espanol...How 'bout a nice trip to Mexico to practice? Or maybe time machine back to High School and pay attention this time....that's what I want to do. :)

Adios.
