No, You Can Be The Mom

Only a few people in my life truly know the joy of riding in the car with my husband. See, Andiclaus likes crappy easy listening music classic '80s love ballads. But he doesn't know the words to them. So frequently, I sit in the car hearing him singing this:

Hello
Is it me you're looking for?
I can hum ah he la hah
I can hee la fa la baha
And I hela fa dadada
I love you

When it comes to the music I like? He is even more clueless. Sarah and I have frequently sat in the backseat giggling to each other while her boyfriend (Joshiclaus) and my husband hem and haw their way through many a song in the front.

Yesterday, Andiclaus and I are driving home from playgroup and there's a Sean Paul song on the radio. Now I may be a snob about not knowing the words to songs, but Sean Paul? He takes it to the next level and I do not even bother trying to know the words. Suffice it to say, it was some song where he was singing very fast with his accent in full force.

The songs been playing for a couple of minutes when Andiclaus looks at me and says, "I wanna be the papa, you can be the mom."

Whu? I laughed and said, "Um, okay. Why did you just say that to me?"

"That's what the song said."

"I'm sorry. Did you just figure out the lyrics to a Sean Paul song?" (Okay, I just googled it and the song is called "Temperature." BTW, there are a lot of freaky things that come up when you google "Wanna be the papa you can be the mom.")

"Yeah."

Recently, Andiclaus has done this quite frequently. It's like he's become some kind of lyrical savant. I'm more than a little weirded out.

Anyway, since I can "be the mom," I have had the bonus responsibility of dealing with the Baby Who Will Not Sleep. Right now, she's down for a nap, which is just all the more frustrating since she's refusing to sleep between the hours of midnight and 4 am. Andiclaus has been trying to help, but the rarely discussed downside to breastfeeding is that some things are best handled by the food source.

Anyway, tonight I'm afraid I may wanna be the papa.

"Detachable boobs" I bet there isn't a nursing Mom out there who hasn't wished for that LOL. The sleeping thru the night thing? my 16mth old is still tormenting me and NOT doing that. Kids gotta love them Every few nights she teases me and does for 2 nights in a row but thats it. Good luck I hope she breaks this little habit as I'm convinced that is my DD's problem ;-)
