So, I've read (Googled) all kinds of things about pregnancy. I know all the crap that will scare the pants off me. I know not to sleep on my back. I know not to lift heavy objects. I know that throwing up lemonade is an unpleasant experience.
However, I am experiencing something that I can't really explain. And believe me, I've tried (Googled).
See, I've been trying to catch up on some homework (reading y'alls blogs), so I've been sitting for most of the day. Every time I stand up, I feel like my tailbone has been hit with a sledgehammer. I've been sitting with good posture, so my tailbone isn't grinding into the chair or anything, but good God. I've given up on reading blogs for the rest of the day. If you write anything brilliant, make sure you email me to let me know. I'm at my site name at gmail.
Also, if you have a brilliant cure (not "Don't sit for so long"), let me know. I'm going to try to stand up now. Pray for me.
I've never posted here, so you don't know me. :-) I've lurked for a while though.
I had tailbone pains while pregnant too. My doctor assured me it was normal. The bones in your pelvis, which normally are kind of locked in place next to each other, have started to loosen, in preparation for when they have to spread wider in order to allow room for the baby to come out. So basically, your pelvic ligaments are stretching.
For me, the pain went away eventually. But dang, it hurt, and nothing seemed to relieve the pain, except changing position more often, and avoiding sitting for too long.
So, I've not posted anything helpful, but at least you know you aren't the only one to experience this! Everyone I mentioned it to dismissed me as a crazy pregnant lady.

What if you always sit and never get up?

I don't know if it's strictly a pregnancy thing. I am a lazy, lazy girl, and this sometimes happens to me after a particularly slow weekend.
Not much help, I know. If you want to totally give up on life, bring your laptop to bed with you. A lazy blogger's dream ;-)

Someone I know had a tailbone injury as a child from falling off of a bike. It used to bother her from time to time. When she had a child her tailbone must of been forced back into place because she never had a problem again after that. Good luck.

Man, Beth, you cannot get a break these days! First puking, now stabbing tailbone pains!!! I can't even recommend alcohol : )
Seriously, though, my friend also told me about the pelvic bones separating thing, so that is likely it. I think it faded for her. Ask Andiclaus to give you massages!

It probably has something to do with your previous tailbone fracture. The added pressure in your pelvis may be pushing on the tailbone causing discomfort (pain). When you sit, more pressure is put on your low back and tailbone so it is harder on it than standing. You probably feel it the most when you stand becuase your body has become used to this position and the movement of standing aggrevates the nerves, ligaments etc. Unfortunatly the only thing you can do as far as I know is try not sitting for long periods of time. You could try kneeling at the computer with a pillow under your knees for a while to see if that new poisition helps. Also, try heat or ice. I will be praying for you. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
